Prep for Wilderness Survival

Like the majority of the population of the world, you may have been born and brought up in a large city or small community safe and secure. You had a roof over your head, food on the table and for the most part, the streets were safe.

For most persons living their everyday lives of having a job, paying bills, ETC. this is probably their biggest concern, how to maintain the status quo. If all of a sudden they found them self-lost in the woods or mountains, fear of what to do next in order to survive and find their way home presents a problem.

A strong Desire to Survive

Without a strong desire to survive, your fate may be just a little on the negative side. There are ways to counter that feeling of depression when all seems hopeless. Think of your loved ones, how they are waiting for you, think of your story of adventure you had to tell them. Keep those thoughts constantly in mind.

Fear is a great motivator if kept under control, but panic will present problems. There are many real stories of survival and it is apparent that it is what’s in an individuals head that helps them survive or not. They may not have had a survival kit handy so they had to improvise.

The trick is a willingness to avoid panic, stop and think, look around and take stock of the surroundings and what they may offer for survival. Be willing to do whatever is necessary to survive.

Even those who understand nothing about survival until they are lost in the wilderness can still discover ways to endure if they are ready to do so.

If lost in the forest, believe it or not, there are many avenues of survival.

Cold weather can be handled by climbing under a stack of leaves, better than being in the open.

Food is abundant in the forest, many flowers and berries are actually editable, of course, knowing which ones are safe to eat is helpful.

Downed logs in the forest may hide protein under the bark, open the log and search for grubs. Just some examples.

There have been some very good survival programs on the History channel and some other channels as well. For inspiration check out these stories of wilderness survival. Some of the stories are about circumstances far worse than anything you are ever likely to encounter. When looking around, something you see may bring up a scene you will remember providing a sure method to see that you can survive.

Keep in mind, you do not have to go to a survival training school to learn survival ways and means. There are many books and videos available on the internet.

Be Prepared For Survival

Preparing for survival is very important, do you live in a climate where certain conditions require a survival kit in case of a breakdown? Do you carry extra water and food in your car? Do you have tools handy for a flat tire? Do you have a car charger for your cell phone? How about extra clothing for cold weather? How about matches and a flashlight?

Depending on where you live and travel, a survival kit should be with you at all times. Take stock of what could possibly happen and prepare.
